CITY OF LANETT

REGULAR SCHEDULED COUNCIL MEETING

February 19th, 2007

 

The City Council of the City of Lanett, Alabama, met in regular session on Monday, February 19th, 2007, in the Council Chambers of the Lanett Municipal Complex at 6:00 P.M.  The roll was taken and the following were found to be present: Jamie Heard, John Duskin, Mike Yarbrough and Kyle McCoy.  Mayor Oscar Crawley was present and presided over the meeting.  Tony Malone arrived about 5 minutes late. 

 

Reverend  Gary Armes said the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.

 

Mayor Crawley presented a plaque to Reverend Gary Armes in recognition of being City Council Chaplin for 2006. 

 

Councilmember Duskin made the motion to adopt the prepared agenda. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember McCoy made a motion to amend the agenda and requested that Councilmember Yarbrough read Resolution 02-07-07 – IRS Standard Business Mileage Rate.  Seconded by Councilmember Duskin.   Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember McCoy made the motion to dispense with reading and to adopt the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of February 5th, 2007.  Councilmember  Heard seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember Malone had nothing this evening.

 

Councilmember Heard read and made a motion to adopt “Resolution 02-07-06 –RESOLUTION TO ALLOW CITY RESIDENT TO CONNECT TO HUGULEY WATER AUTHORITY WATER LINE”.  Councilmember  McCoy seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried. 

 

Councilmember Duskin had nothing at this time, but remarked that the striping of Cherry Drive looks good and the J. T. Greene School demolition is progressing rapidly.

 

Councilmember McCoy read Business License Transfer – Retail Beer License of Summit Big Cat to Mr. Aashutosh Patel.  Seconded by Councilmember Yarbrough.   Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember Yarbrough read Resolution 02-07-07 IRS Standard Business Mileage Rate.  Councilmember Yarbrough made a motion to adopt Resolution 02-07-07.   Councilmember Duskin seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember Yarbrough made a motion to go into executive session  “Personnel Matter”.  Councilperson McCoy seconded the motion.  Roll call vote was taken:  Councilmember Malone, yea; Councilmember Heard, yea; Councilmember Duskin, yea; Councilmember McCoy, yea; Councilmember Yarbrough, yea; Mayor Crawley, yea.  Motion unanimously carried.  Mayor Crawley said they would be in executive session for fifteen minutes.

 

Councilmember Yarbrough made a motion to come out of executive session. Councilmember Malone seconded the motion.  Roll call vote:  Councilmember Malone, yea; Councilmember Heard, yea; Councilmember Duskin, yea; Councilmember McCoy, yea; Councilmember Yarbrough, yea; Mayor Crawley, yea.  Motion unanimously carried.  Councilmember Yarbrough noted that no action was taken at this time.

 

Mayor Crawley stated there would be a groundbreaking for J.T. Greene School area apartments in the near future.  The apartments will be low-income housing for residents 55 and older.  Mayor Crawley reminded all citizens of the Senator Shelby Breakfast, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce,  being held at Spring Road Christian Church on Friday morning.  Cost will be $11.00.    Mayor Crawley wished Ernie Pearce of Carroll Video a Happy Birthday.

 

There being no further business to come before this Council, motion duly made, meeting was adjourned at 6:31 P.M.
