REGULAR SCHEDULED COUNCIL MEETING
March 03, 2008
The City Council of the City of Lanett, Alabama, met in regular session on Monday, March 03, 2008, in the Council Chambers of the Lanett Municipal Complex at 12:00 Noon P.M. The roll was taken and the following were found to be present: Councilmember Tony Malone, Jamie Heard, Kyle McCoy, John Duskin and Mike Yarbrough. Mayor Oscar Crawley was present and presided over the meeting.
Reverend Gary Armes said the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.
Councilmember Malone made a motion to amend the agenda. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Roll call vote as follows: Councilmember Malone – Yea, Councilmember Heard – Yea, Councilmember McCoy – Yea, Councilmember Duskin – Nay, Councilmember Yarbrough – Yea and Mayor Crawley – Yea. Motion carried.
Councilmember McCoy made the motion to adopt the prepared amended agenda. Councilmember Malone seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember McCoy made the motion to dispense with reading and to adopt the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of February 18, 2008. Councilmember Heard seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember McCoy made a motion to go into executive session at 12:04 P.M. Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion. Roll call as follows: Councilmember Malone – Yea, Councilmember Heard – Yea, Councilmember McCoy – Yea, Councilmember Duskin – Yea, Councilmember Yarbrough – Yea and Mayor Crawley – Yea. Motion unanimously carried. Mayor Crawley said that they would be in executive session about 20 – 30 Minutes.
Councilmember McCoy made a motion to come out of executive session at 1:03 P. M. Councilmember Heard and Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion. Roll call as follows: Councilmember Malone – Yea, Councilmember Heard – Yea, Councilmember McCoy – Yea, Councilmember Duskin – Yea, Councilmember Yarbrough – Yea and Mayor Crawley – Yea. Motion unanimously carried. Motion unanimously carried
Councilmember McCoy made a motion to retain State of Alabama Examiners Office about the demolition on housing, public works building, airport and grading contractor. Councilmember Malone seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember Malone had nothing.
Councilmember Heard read, “Resolution 03-08-01 – Bid on City Hall Copier”. Councilmember Heard made a motion to adopt “Resolution 03-08-01 – Bid on City Hall Copier” from Zeno Office Solutions for $279.00 per month for 60 months. Councilmember Duskin seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember McCoy read the second reading of “Ordinance 02-08-01 – Annexation of Property Adjacent to Airport 12.29 Acres”. Councilmember McCoy made a motion to adopt “Ordinance 02-08-01 – Annexation of Property Adjacent to Airport 12.29 Acres”. Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion. Roll Call vote as follows: Councilmember Malone – Yea, Councilmember Heard – Yea, Councilmember McCoy – Yea, Councilmember Duskin – Yea, Councilmember Yarbrough – Yea and Mayor Crawley – Yea. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember McCoy read “Resolution 03-08-04 – Alatax Business License Discovery/Recovery Contract”. Councilmember McCoy made a motion to adopt “Resolution 03-08-04 – Alatax Business License Discovery/Recovery Contract”. Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember Duskin read, “Resolution 03-08-02 – Bid on Knuckleboom Brush/Limb Loader”. Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 03-08-02 – Bid on Knuckleboom Brush/Limb Loader” from Langley Motor Company for $124,997.00. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried. Councilmember McCoy asks what kind of maintenance would the City of Lanett have and Superintendent Mike Bass said that the City of Lanett would have a 12-month bumper-to-bumper warranty with a 4-year contract.
Councilmember Duskin read the second reading of “Ordinance 02-08-02 – Amendment of Business License Ordinance 10-07-01”. Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Ordinance 02-08-02 – Amendment of Business License Ordinance 10-07-01”. Councilmember Malone seconded the motion. Roll call vote as follows: Councilmember Malone – Nay, Councilmember Heard – Nay, Councilmember McCoy – Nay, Councilmember Duskin – Yea, Councilmember Yarbrough – Nay and Mayor Crawley – Yea. Motion failed.
Councilmember Yarbrough read “Resolution 03-08-03 – Electric Department Bucket Truck Inspection”. Councilmember Yarbrough made a motion to adopt “Resolution 03-08-03 – Electric Department Bucket Truck Inspection” from Altec Industries, Inc. for $11,488.76. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
There being no further business to come before this Council, motion duly made, meeting adjourned at 1:10 P.M.
