CITY OF LANETT
REGULAR SCHEDULED COUNCIL MEETING
April 17, 2006
The City Council of the City of Lanett, Alabama, met in regular session on Monday, April 17, 2006, in the Council Chambers of the Lanett Municipal Complex at 6:00 P.M. The roll was taken and the following were found to be present: Councilmember Duskin, Councilmember Heard, and Councilmember Yarbrough. Councilmember Malone and Councilmember McCoy were absent. Mayor Crawley was present and presided over the meeting.
Reverend Gary Armes said the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.
Councilmember Duskin made the motion to adopt the prepared agenda. Councilmember Heard seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember Yarbrough made the motion to dispense with reading and to adopt the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of April 03, 2006. Councilmember Heard seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember Heard asked about the CDBG Sewer Project in West Shawmut. City Manager Holley said that the tie-ins were completed and the paving should be ready to go.
Councilmember Duskin presented and read Proclamation “May as Older Americans Month”. Those present to receive the Proclamation were Genell Cochran, Lottie Nolen, Betty Cobb, Mary Woody, Jane Farrar and Betty Trawick.
Councilmember Yarbrough had nothing this evening. Councilmember Yarbrough said that he was excited about the $550,000.00 in grant money the City of Lanett had received for the Airport Grant project.
City Manager Holley announced the passing of former City Manager Charles Jennings.
City Manager Holley read a letter from Street Superintendent Mike Bass about moving the CDL drivers from grade IV to grade V, because he losing good drivers. In the letter he states that some of the employees have already topped out in the grade IV.
City Manger Holley said that on April 11, 2006 he and Councilmember Duskin along with several others traveled to Lincoln, Alabama to the Honda Plant to find out about the changes. City Manager Holley said Mayor Watkins spent several hours with discussing and City of Lanett being ready for such an industry. City Manager Holley advised said Mayor Watkins advised that the City of Lanett zoning needs to be complete and have an up to date land plan.
City Manager Holley said on April 12, 2006 met with the Mayor of Greenville, Alabama and their Economic Developer and learned from his experiences on having suppliers for a large plant.
City Manager Holley told the Mayor and Council that the Alabama Department of Transportation had taken up the City of Lanett I-85 garbage containers and they were completely filled with trash. The Alabama Department of Transportation said they could not be on their right-of-way.
City Manager Holley said the cost of having lifeguards, fixing the decking, and paying for chemicals for the City of Lanett pool would cost an estimated $23,000.00. Mayor Crawley asked about another estimate for $3,400.00, which was to patch it. City Manager Holley said there was another estimate for $7,500.00 to fix the pool.
City Manager Holley said that there had been some earth-moving going out at the City of Lanett Airport. City Manager Holley said that they are getting ready to lay the pipe.
City Manager Holley said that he had been talking to couple of banks about the mill village. City Manager Holley said he was working on to put the City of Lanett in position to take advantage of anything coming the City of Lanett way. City Manager Holley said that good thins are on the horizon for the City of Lanett.
They’re being no further business, to come before this Council, motion duly made, and meeting was adjourned.
