CITY OF LANETT

REGULAR SCHEDULED COUNCIL MEETING

August 7, 2006

 

The City Council of the City of Lanett, Alabama, met in regular session on Monday, August 7, 2006, in the Council Chambers of the Lanett Municipal Complex at 6:00 P.M.  The roll was taken and the following were found to be present Councilmember Duskin, Councilmember Heard, Councilmember Yarbrough, and Councilmember McCoy.  Councilmember Malone and Mayor Crawley were absent.   Mayor Pro Tem Duskin was present and presided over the meeting.

 

Reverend Gary Armes said the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.

 

Councilmember McCoy made the motion to adopt the prepared agenda.  Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember McCoy made the motion to dispense with reading and to adopt the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of July 17 2006.  Councilmember Heard seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember Malone was absent.

 

Councilmember Heard had nothing this evening.

 

Councilmember McCoy made a motion of second reading of “Ordinance 07-06-01 – An Ordinance to Annex Property Into The City of Lanett”.  Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.     

 

Councilmember McCoy made a motion to approve and grant the transfer of license beer/wine sales – off premises only for Circle k Stores, Inc.  Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember McCoy read the first reading of “Ordinance 08-06-01 – Sales and Use Tax Codes”.  Councilmember McCoy explained that the sales tax would be on the automobiles, which would be changed to .70% (percent) of 1.00 percent and in the jurisdiction it would be .375% (percent).

 

Councilmember Yarbrough had nothing this evening other than thanking the Police Department for the good job on investigation and catching the person responsible for the theft that had been going on in the City of Lanett

 

Councilmember Yarbrough said that he wanted to thank the Fire Department for the good job on the death of our former Fire Chief Mack Sanders and former Public Safety Director.

 

Mayor Pro Tem Duskin wanted to thank the Fire Department for the good job they did on the passing of our former Fire Chief and Public Safety Director Mack Sanders.

 

Mayor Pro Tem Duskin also wanted to thank Chief Ronald Docimo on the good job with “National Night Out”.

 

Mayor Pro Tem Duskin said that Mayor Crawley had a funeral in Florida and was unable to be here.

 

City Manager Holley said he wanted to thank everybody for what they did in the recent death of his father.

 

City Manager Holley said there would be a Finance Committee meeting Wednesday August 9, 2006 at 5:00 P.M. to discuss the franchise tax (Greg Fender), bond re-financing (Joe Jolley), and the City of Lanett health insurance.

 

City Manager Holley said that the City of Lanett had calls on the water problems.  The West Point Dam had not been generating and they started back up and it caused too much mageness in the water and it had to be treated, which caused the water to look muddy.  City Manager Holley said the water is safe to drink.

 

 

 

City Manager Holley said on Friday, September 29, 2006 would be celebrating the naming of the Lanett Football stadium in honor of Mal Morgan and Dan Washburn.  City Manager Holley said that they have started a “Legion 100 Club”      

 

There being no further business, to come before this Council, motion duly made, and meeting was adjourned.
