CITY OF LANETT

REGULAR SCHEDULED COUNCIL MEETING

November 6, 2006

 

The City Council of the City of Lanett, Alabama, met in regular session on Monday, November 6, 2006, in the Council Chambers of the Lanett Municipal Complex at 6:00 P.M.  The roll was taken and the following were found to be present: Councilmember Malone, Councilmember McCoy, Councilmember Duskin, and Councilmember Yarbrough.  Councilmember Heard was absent.    Mayor Crawley was present and presided over the meeting.

 

Reverend Gary Armes said the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.

 

Councilmember McCoy made the motion to adopt the prepared agenda.  Councilmember Duskin    seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember Duskin made the motion to dispense with reading and to adopt the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of October16, 2006.  Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

 

Councilmember Malone presented “Proclamation – Genell Cochran  - All Star District 6 Master Games”. 

 

Councilmember Malone recognized the District Master Games Winners”.

 

Councilmember Malone reminded everybody to get out and vote.

 

Councilmember Heard was absent this evening.

 

Councilmember McCoy made a motion to approve and adopt “Contract for the Humane Society”.  Motion seconded by Councilmember Yarbrough.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember McCoy made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-06-03 – Purchase of Land Lanett, Alabama”.  Motion seconded by Councilmember Yarbrough.  Motion unanimously carried.  Councilmember McCoy said the land is adjacent to Dean Park and it was purchased from Mac Langley and Riverbend Realty for $7,500.00.

 

Councilmember McCoy made a motion approve and adopt “Renewal Application for beer/wine sales off premises only – Jet Pep 2310 Broad Avenue, Lanett, Alabama – Joseph Olajubutu”.    Motion seconded by Councilmember Duskin.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember McCoy congratulated the seniors for Master Game’s awards.

 

Councilmember Duskin presented “Veterans Day Proclamation”.  Street Superintendent Mike Bass accepted the proclamation.

 

Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-06-02 – Street Dump Truck Award Bid”.  Motion seconded by Councilmember McCoy.  Motion unanimously carried. Councilmember Duskin said the bid was  $42,991.00 from Langley Motors.

 

Councilmember Duskin reminded everybody to get out and vote.

 

Councilmember Yarbrough wanted to congratulate the Senior Master Game winners. Councilmember Yarbrough also wanted to thank the Mayor and Council for work on the $250,000.00 grant that the City of Lanett received for the Senior Nutrition Center.

 

Mayor Crawley said the City of Lanett would be closed for Veterans Day Friday November 10, 2006.

 

Mayor Crawley said that the Lanett Senior Center would be expanding very soon due to the $250,000.00 grant.

 

 

 

 

 

Mattie Walker, Lanett Senior Center Queen and James Griffin, Lanett Senior Center King came before the Mayor and Council and Lurlie Jennings introduced them. Lurlie Jennings said that it went real well and how much fun they had.  Mayor Crawley crowned the winners of the 2006 Lanett Senior Center Halloween Beauty Pageant.

 

Valerie Givorns Gray, Director with the Industrial Development Authority, came before the Mayor and Council.  Mrs. Gray brought a special guest with her and she introduced Keith Hettig with the Great Lakes Stamping, which will employee 150 jobs.  Mrs. Gray said that a company has given a commitment to locate a call center in Lanett, Alabama that will provide work for 50 employees.  Mrs. Gray requested a meeting with e City of Lanett Finance Committee that will be set up soon to lay out the final incentives for the company which is set to up and running by January 2007.  Mrs. Gray said the groundbreaking would be December 1, 2006.  Mrs. Gray said that Mando would be locating in the Huguley Industrial Park.  The ribbon cutting would be in the near future and they would hire approximately 50 employees.  Councilmember McCoy said there would be a meeting set up with the Finance Committee on incentive money from the City of Lanett.

 

Mayor Crawley thanked Mr. Keith Hettig for the Plant coming to Chambers County.

 

Mayor Crawley asked if any of the seniors had anything to say. Mrs. Genell Cochran said the Lanett Senior Center had been a lifesaver for her.  She said that she enjoyed the games and the trips. 

 

There being no further business to come before this Council, motion duly made, meeting adjourned.
