CITY OF LANETT

REGULAR SCHEDULED COUNCIL MEETING

November 19, 2007

 

The City Council of the City of Lanett, Alabama, met in regular session on Monday, November 19, 2007, in the Council Chambers of the Lanett Municipal Complex at 6:00 P.M.  The roll was taken and the following were found to be present: Councilmember Jamie Heard, Kyle McCoy, John Duskin and Mike Yarbrough.  Mayor Oscar Crawley was present and presided over the meeting.

 

Reverend Gary Armes said the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.

 

Councilmember McCoy and Councilmember Duskin made the motion to adopt the prepared agenda.  Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember Duskin made the motion to dispense with reading and to adopt the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of November 05, 2007.  Councilmember Heard seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Mayor Crawley welcomed the retired teachers and former Councilmember Carl Bullard.

 

Councilmember Heard read “Resolution 11-07-07 – New Years Eve Special Holiday”.  Councilmember Heard made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-07-07 - New Years Eve Special Holiday ”.  Councilmember Duskin seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember McCoy read “Resolution 11-07-06– Declare Surplus Property”.  Councilmember McCoy made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-07-06– Declare Surplus Property”.  Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember McCoy read “Resolution 11-07-08 – 2007-2008 IDA Contract for Services”.  Councilmember McCoy made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-07-08 – 2007-2008 IDA Contract for Services”.  Councilmember Yarbrough seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.

 

Councilmember Duskin read “Resolution 11-07-05 – CDBG Project Approval LR-CM-PF-07-009”.  Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-07-05 – CDBG Project Approval LR-CM-PF-07-009”.  Councilmember Heard seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.  Councilmember Heard said this CDBG sewer Project will be handled by The Towry Company.  Mayor Crawley said this is the last section of West Shawmut. 

 

Councilmember Duskin read “Resolution 11-07-09 – Dilapidated Houses”.  Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-07-09 – Dilapidated Houses”.  Councilmember Heard seconded the motion.  Motion unanimously carried.  Councilmember Duskin said there were six (6) properties on the list.  Councilmember Duskin said there was a letter sent to the owner and they had forty-five (45) days to respond and they did not.  Councilmember Duskin said that a itemize statement would be prepared on the cost and send to the owner.

 

Councilmember Duskin wished everybody a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday and congratulated the Lanett High Panthers football team on their win

 

Councilmember Yarbrough thanked everyone on the cleanup in the City of Lanett and that it looks real good.

 

Councilmember Yarbrough presented “Proclamation Retired Teachers’ Day”.  Councilmember Yarbrough, Councilmember Heard and Mayor Crawley presented the proclamation to the retired teachers.  Those present to receive the proclamation were Freeman Carter, Geneva Carter, W.O. Lance, Katie Walton, and Mrs. Early McKnight.

 

Councilmember Yarbrough wished everybody a Happy Thanksgiving.  Councilmember Yarbrough asked everybody to pray for this area because of the jobs lost from WestPoint Home.

 

 

 

Mayor Crawley said the next council meeting will be held at 5:30 P.M. and the Christmas Tree Lighting at 6:00 P.M.  Roll call votes as follows:  Councilmember Heard – Yea, McCoy – Yea, Duskin – Yea, Yarbrough – Yea and Mayor Crawley – Yea.  Motion unanimously carried. 

 

Attorney Larry Nix said the City of Lanett Mayor and Council would have to entertain a motion to change the council meeting.

 

Councilmember McCoy made a motion to change the council meeting on December 3, 2007 to 5:30 P.M. instead of 6:00 P.M.  Councilmember Heard seconded the motion.

 

There being no further business to come before this Council, motion duly made, meeting was adjourned at 6:20 P.M.
