CITY OF LANETT
REGULAR SCHEDULED COUNCIL MEETING
November 20, 2006
The City Council of the City of Lanett, Alabama, met in regular session on Monday, November 20, 2006, in the Council Chambers of the Lanett Municipal Complex at 6:00 P.M. The roll was taken and the following were found to be present: Councilmember Heard, Councilmember McCoy, Councilmember Duskin, and Councilmember Yarbrough. Councilmember Malone was absent. Mayor Crawley was present and presided over the meeting.
City Manager Holley said the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.
Councilmember Yarbrough made the motion to amend the prepared agenda to move Councilmember Yarbrough to the first to present proclamation to Mrs. Terry. Councilmember Duskin seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember McCoy made the motion to adopt the prepared agenda as amended. Councilmember Duskin seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember Yarbrough made the motion to dispense with reading and to adopt the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of November 6, 2006. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember Yarbrough presented “Proclamation – Allyne Terry”. Councilmember Yarbrough presented proclamation to Allyne Terry on her one-hundredth birthday.
Councilmember Malone was absent.
Councilmember Heard had nothing this evening.
Councilmember McCoy made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-06-01 A Resolution To Adopt A Budget For The City of Lanett, Alabama For The 2006-2007 Fiscal Year”. Motion seconded by Councilmember Duskin and Councilmember Yarbrough. Motion unanimously carried. Councilmember McCoy wanted to thank City Clerk Deborah Daniel for all the work she did on the budget and thanked the City Manager Holley and department heads.
Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-06-05 – Application for Airport Improvement”. Motion seconded by Councilmember McCoy. Motion unanimously carried. City Manager Holley explained that the City of Lanett would be getting a Grant for $150,000.00 and the City of Lanett portion of the grant would be two-half percent.
Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-06-06 – A Resolution for Sims Subdivision Approval”. Motion seconded by Councilmember McCoy. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-06-07 – A Resolution To Declare Surplus Property”. Motion seconded by Councilmember Yarbrough. Motion unanimously carried. Councilmember Duskin said the surplus property is a 10,000-gallon gas tank. Building Inspector Jerry Thrower said the gas tank has sludge in the bottom of it.
Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 11-06-08 – Airport Planner Engineering Firm”. Motion seconded by Councilmember McCoy. Motion unanimously carried. Councilmember Duskin said that Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood would serve as the City of Lanett Airport Planner and perform engineering services for the Lanett municipal airport for the next three years.
Councilmember Duskin wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
Mayor Crawley said the City Hall would be closed Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24, 2006 for the Thanksgiving Holidays.
Mayor Crawley said the City of Lanett would have its annual Christmas Tree Lightning Ceremony at the next scheduled council meeting on December 4, 2006 at 6:00 P.M. Mayor Crawley said that Bea Sanders would light the Christmas tree in memory of her husband Mack Sanders,
Neighborhood Watch will be having for entertainment a raffle, several church choirs, the Lanett High School JROTC, Santa, the Lanett High School Band and much more.
Councilmember McCoy noted that the Lanett football team might be coming back from Birmingham, Alabama from the playoffs. He said that the football team is in the third round of the playoffs this week and are hosting Leroy High School on Friday night at Morgan-Washburn Stadium and hope to have the entire City of Lanett to come out for the game.
American Homebuyers USA – Town house developers came before the Mayor and Council. Terrell Williams with American Homebuyers USA spoke to the Mayor and Council about a development at South 11th Street and south Jennings Avenue where five townhouses will be built. Mr. Williams said they would be sold to people wanting to own their own homes and they would
be three bedrooms with two-half baths. Mr. Williams said there would be twenty-one houses; he had a map of the proposed development.
There being no further business to come before this Council, motion duly made, meeting adjourned.
