CITY OF LANETT
REGULAR SCHEDULED COUNCIL MEETING
December 17, 2007
The City Council of the City of Lanett, Alabama, met in regular session on Monday, December 17, 2007, in the Council Chambers of the Lanett Municipal Complex at 6:00 P.M. The roll was taken and the following were found to be present: Councilmember Tony Malone, Jamie Heard, Kyle McCoy, and John Duskin. Councilmember Mike Yarbrough was absent. Mayor Oscar Crawley was present and presided over the meeting.
Reverend Gary Armes said the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance.
Councilmember Duskin made the motion to adopt the prepared agenda. Councilmember Heard seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember Duskin made the motion to dispense with reading and to adopt the minutes of the regular scheduled meeting of December 03, 2007. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Mayor Crawley said he had received a letter from Governor Bob Riley that the City of Lanett would receive $25,000.00 for study on the rehabilitation of the City of Lanett mill village.
Councilmember Malone read “Resolution 12-07-05 – Surplus for Fire Department”. Councilmember Malone made a motion to adopt “Resolution 12-07-05 – Surplus for Fire Department”. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried. Councilmember McCoy asked if the surplus equipment from the Huguley Fire Station was in better shape than the equipment at the City of Lanett Fire Station. City Manager Holley said that the equipment at the Lanett Fire Station was better.
Councilmember Malone read “Resolution 12-07-08 – 2007 Basketball Contract for Services with Georgia/Alabama Basketball Association”. Councilmember Malone made a motion to adopt “Resolution 12-07-08 – 2007 Basketball Contract for Services with Georgia/Alabama Basketball Association”. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember Malone expressed that the birth of Jesus Christ is the reason for this season. Councilmember Malone said that he hoped everybody had a bless Christmas.
Councilmember Heard read “Resolution 12-07-04 – Appointment of Mayor Crawley to the IDA’s Joint Funding Analysis Committee for Long Term Funding”. Councilmember Heard made a motion to adopt Resolution 12-07-04 – Appointment of Mayor Crawley to the IDA’s Joint Funding Analysis Committee for Long Term Funding”. Councilmember Duskin seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried. Mayor Crawley said that the IDA needed someone from the City of Lanett to be a representative.
Councilmember Heard read “Resolution 12-07-09 – CDBG Project LR-CM-PF-07-009 Engineering Services”. Councilmember Heard made a motion to adopt “Resolution 12-07-09 – CDBG Project LR-CM-PF-07-009 Engineering Services ”. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried. Councilmember McCoy asked how long would it take for the West Shawmut area and Superintendent Mike Bass said it should be finished in September 2008.
Councilmember McCoy read “Resolution 12-07-10 – First Street Paving Project”. Councilmember McCoy made a motion to adopt “Resolution 12-07-10 – First Street Paving Project” and Chris Clark Grading and Paving, Inc. got the bid for $218,363.00. Councilmember Duskin seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried. Councilmember Duskin said that the paving is great and hope that the City of Lanett can pave other areas in Lanett. Mayor Crawley said that the City of Lanett plans to pave other areas in City of Lanett.
Councilmember Duskin read, “Resolution 12-07-06 – Bid to Purchase Used Boom Arm Mower”. Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 12-07-06 – Bid to Purchase Used Boom Arm Mower” from Joe Money Machinery for $35,000.00. Councilmember McCoy seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried. Councilmember Malone asked where was Joe
Money Machinery located and what was the cost for a brand new one. Superintendent Mike Bass said a new one would be around $80,000.00 to $90,000.00.
Councilmember Duskin read “Resolution 12-07-07 – Dilapidated Housing Removal”. Councilmember Duskin made a motion to adopt “Resolution 12-07-07 – Dilapidated Housing Removal”. Councilmember seconded the motion. Motion unanimously carried.
Councilmember McCoy asked City of Lanett Attorney Larry Nix if the City of Lanett could foreclose and Attorney Larry Nix said no. Attorney Larry Nix said that the City of Lanett could put the charges for work done tearing down these houses.
Councilmember Duskin wished everybody Merry Christmas.
Councilmember Malone asked about changing deposits to connection fees. Mayor Crawley said after the first of the year 2008 the City of Lanett Council will set up a work session to discuss the changes.
Mayor Crawley said that there was a copy of the notice of meetings for the 2008 year.
There being no further business to come before this Council, motion duly made, meeting was adjourned at 6:26 P.M.
